Help! Volunteers Wanted for Editing and Cheerleading…

Hi There!

In November 2012, I posted here to start a group of volunteer editors for my second book, Courted by Karma. My hopes were that a few people would enjoy being involved in the creative process of writing a book with me and we’d have some fun. My offer was to accredit the people volunteering as Contributing Editors on the books they’ve edited. Also, I offered to gift them an eBook and/or signed paperback upon completion.

As a self-published writer, I can never have too many people giving me feedback. There’s nothing fancy about qualifying to be a volunteer editor, although I’ve lucked out. The group I have are a smart bunch from locations across the country. They’re of all ages, all walks of life, and are all leading busy lives that make me incredibly humble they’ve offered their valuable time to support me. Of course, they do all have one thing in common–they love to read!

The only “credentials” I need is that you will love to give your advice on making my books better and/or want to get your mitts dirty line editing to correct my mistakes.

If you think volunteer editing with me on the next Β book project sounds interesting, post a comment below or send me an email. I respond to all inquiries.

10/07/13 Update: Thanks to the people recently responding to this post. I think I’ve contacted you all in regards to my next book. If I’ve missed anybody, please shoot me an email because we are beginning soon. ;}

9/27/14 Update: To all the people that offered to help edit the next Anabel book project over the past 3-4Β months: You have not been forgotten! At the start of writing Adieu to Destiny, Volume IV, I had intentions to contact the people who’d written in to me with an interest in volunteer editing. Due to unexpected tight publishing deadlines, I’ve been a crazy madwoman. I wasn’t able to take advantage of any of your kind offers like I’d hoped. I’ve kept your emails on file, in case any of you are still interested to help on my next book project. Again, thank you for volunteering.

I have not been contact but would still love to help out!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Stwphanie, please don’t take it personally, but I haven’t contacted anybody that has offered to help edit my latest book, Adieu to Destiny. I wrote a little update on this post in September explaining I was too under the gun with deadlines. I still want to get volunteer help for my future books, so thanks for letting me know you’re still interested. Also, I have a new blog that is up right now, but not “officially” live until Sunday 10/26. (We are testing some stuff still.) If you’d like to look around, I have a couple of other volunteer opportunities. Opinion Minions will be active in November 2014. I have a newsletter sign up, too. If you’re interested, here’s the new blog site address. Thank you!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hey, disregard my long blurb above. I just saw you’ve already signed up on the new blog for both. Thanks! πŸ˜‰

  2. Ilene Harris says:

Hi – I would still like to be a volunteer.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Great! Thanks for your interest and for signing up for Opinion Minions, too. Unfortunately, I’m not able to use anybody’s offer of volunteer editing for this book, But I will be definitely taking you up, and everyone else that posted, on your offers to volunteer edit/proofread on the next book. The circumstances were unique in writing this current book, and I hope I will never repeat such tight deadlines again. Have a wonderful weekend, Ilene

  3. Laura says:

I adored your books! You are truly a gifted writer. I would only like to proofread your books to get an early eye on them (and maybe get some influence to have you finishing up Acadia’s story). If it helps I caught 3 minor mistakes in the 4 books of yours I just read over the weekend, or if that doesn’t help, forget I wrote that.
I really admire your precision on firearms. As an instructor and advocate it pains me to see the inaccuracies in so many books and movies.
You write the way I wish I could (except Luke’s truck would definitely be a F250) and are wickedly funny, and I look forward to many, many more stories!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hello, Laura. Your post made me laugh and I thank you for that, and the compliments. Yes, I always want to be told of any errors found in any of my books because I’ve been told I’m an anal perfectionist. That must mean it will actually slow up my future writing process as I fret, so see, you do have influence over me already. πŸ˜‰ I’m thrilled you think the firearms info was precise because I’m a gun novice. If you know of anybody that fits the bill, what I could really use is the help of a firearms instructor and advocate for any questions that pop up when I’m doing research for future books…

      • Laura says:

I’m your girl! Honestly I’m not a crazy gun nut who memorizes optimum grain for maximum accuracy blah blah, though I have friends who are so I can question them if it’s something I don’t know. I am a certified rifle, pistol, shotgun and personal protection instructor. I haven’t taught in a few years, as I am in the midst of adopting 3 beautiful little girls. (As a plus to the adoption process I have very recently been scanned and approved by DOJ, FBI and CACI).

      • Tracy Ellen says:

You are my girl! I doubt any questions of mine would be too hard for someone with your credentials, semi-retired or not. I am definitely keeping your email handy–thank you very much. Best of luck on the adoption process. Wow, 3 little girls at once will keep you busy. I only had one little girl at once and she’s kept me hopping for the past twenty years! (Somebody’s 4 books read in a weekend days may be over….just sayin’, lol.) Thanks again, Laura.

  4. Linda Russell says:

Hi, Tracy! I have read (and loved) all of your books. I just noticed this request for volunteer proofreaders. If you are still looking for volunteers, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be one! I was an English major in college, and a school newspaper editor in my last life. I’ve been a computer programmer for the 34 years since, but still am a member of the Grammar Police, if that makes any difference! At any rate, I have already pre-ordered the next book. πŸ™‚

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Linda! I’m so glad to hear you loved my books. Thank you so much for offering to proofread. Lol, it was your Grammar Police membership that won me over. Just an FYI: At the beginning of my Adieu to Destiny book project, I had every intention of contacting people that had offered to help edit, but it turns out I am writing this current book differently than any other due to some unexpected timing deadlines. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if or how volunteer editing is going work for Adieu to Destiny. If I have time for help, I’d be asking some volunteers toward the end of October. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be until my next book project, but I am keeping track of those people that offered to contact them later. Thank you for preordering my book! Have a wonderful weekend. πŸ˜‰

  5. Ilene Harris says:

I would love to be a volunteer reader for the next book. Please add me to the list. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

      Hello Ilene,

You must definitely join Bel’s Book Ninjas! ;} My new blog is going to be up in two weeks or so, and there will be a place to sign up beta read. I’ll let everyone know when it’s ready. Have a great week!

      • Ilene Harris says:

Did I miss the sign up?

      • Tracy Ellen says:

        Hi Ilene,
        Oh no, it’s not you, it’s me! I’m behind schedule and apologize for the delay in keeping to the dates I mentioned when we talked before. My new blog still isn’t quite done, which is where the mailing list for Bel’s Book Ninjas will be set up. I’m probably safe saying mid-October (if you don’t see a post about BBN before then). Thanks so much for checking back, I appreciate your interest. ;}

  6. Annabel Furber says:

I absolutely adore all of your books. I just downloaded Acadia’s Law and don’t plan to stop until I’m done. I have re-read Anabel’s books 3 times now and it did not get old. I love to edit and would very happily help to proofread anything.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Lol, I think it’s got something to do with your name–you feel an affinity. πŸ˜‰ Thanks so much, Annabel for loving and re-reading my books, and for volunteering to proofread/edit. I am behind schedule getting in touch with people that have volunteered to help with the fourth Anabel book, Adieu to Destiny. But I will be sending out an email within a couple of weeks and you’ll definitely be included.Hope you are having fun reading Acadia’s Law tonight!

      • Annabel Furber says:

Thanks so much! Still very much interested in proof-reading and editing support. Seriously–any time!!

      • Tracy Ellen says:

Thanks, Annabel, that’s so great of you to offer. I will be needing help proofreading, etc sometime end of October. I will post about the different opportunities then, so you can see what suits you best. πŸ˜‰

  7. Ilene Harris says:

Beta Reader Group Name: Bel’s Bookworms
I can’t wait to read the next book!

  8. April says:

I am almost finished the 3rd Anabel/Luke book and don’t want it to end because I have immensely enjoyed the series! I love the characters in the series and find myself smiling and laughing while I am reading.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hold onto that thought, LOL! A new Anabel will be coming out sometime this fall! Thanks, April, I’m so glad you love the characters and are having a good time reading the series. Happy Reading!

  9. Ilene Harris says:

If you are still looking for help, I would love to volunteer. I can honestly say this is the funniest series I’ve ever read. Anabel is a wonderful character and I can’t wait to read about her newest adventures.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Ilene! Wow-I’m so pleased you thought the books were funny! That’s a great compliment-thank you very, very much. I love writing about Anabel–she is definitely a fun character. Thanks for volunteering to help–I’ll be in touch with more info in the next month. πŸ˜‰

  10. Hope Sawyer says:

Hi Tracy! I just finished the Anabel Axelrod series and I so LOVE Anabel! She is a great character. You just want to root for her in the real world! Laughing out loud late at night and crying at the same time due to laughing so hard- had me waking Mr. Spouse a few times. So, not so sure how much he loves Anabel. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜¬
I did come across many spelling and/or grammatical errors while reading these. I’m just curious if you plan to re-edit and update??? I don’t even know if it’s possible. But I’d love to help with editing any past or future books you have.
I have seen that the new Acadia series will be out starting next month. Can’t wait to delve into those as well! Keep Writing! I love your style!
    Hope Sawyer

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hello Hope! Thanks for stopping by my blog. OMG, I love how you described waking up your loved one from “loud” reading. I do that all the time, too! I love that my books caused you to do that!! I really hope you enjoy my new series, as well. Thanks for the support and the offer to edit. I’d like to ask you a few more questions. Can I reach you at this email? Or you could email me @

  11. Robin Lee B says:

I’ve just finished the third Anabel book and have loved them all! If you’re still looking for help, I’d love to be part of your team.

  12. carolsloan says:

Hi Tracy! I love the first two Anabel books and would love to join your editing team if you’re still looking for members! My email addy is if you need me…

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hello Carol! I will gratefully add you to the list. Thank you! You’ve probably read below that I’ll be contacting you again in a few weeks when I get going on the new Anabel book, but in case you haven’t, I will be. πŸ˜‰ Have a good weekend!

  13. Janet says:

Me, me, me! Pick me to edit! Love the Anabelle series!!! If you have a need for one more I am your girl!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

LOL, let’s see….my next pick is…my girl JANET! Janet, come on down! You’re the newest volunteer on Team Tracy Ellen! (Okay–time to be serious and talk bizness. I am straightened up now. Are you straightened up now, Janet? Good. I shall be contacting you in the next month or so. At that time, you will be given a mission. Should you choose to accept that mission, you will become part of Team Ninja. Thanks for volunteering.)

      • janet says:

I will wait patiently for your direction : ) I have to acquire some fringe but that is doable. Love your books, I laughed out loud every time I read the series… um, yes I read them more than once. They were kinda like a good movie that you just have to watch over and over.
        Until I hear from you….

      • Tracy Ellen says:

        Ah, smart move! Every girl should have fringe–you just never know when you may need a distraction… Thanks for the compliments ❀ and the Monday morning smiles! Until then…;}

  14. Danielle says:

I love your writing and the Adventures of Anabel and would love to be a part of your creative process!

I honestly can’t believe this series isn’t on the best seller list!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Danielle, Thank you so much for your compliments, they are appreciated a whole bunch! I’d love to put you to work.;D l’ll be starting the 4th Anabel book in July, so I’ll be emailing everyone that volunteered sometime in the next month or so to see who’s still interested, etc. Expect to hear from me then and thanks again!

  15. Lauren says:

I devoured your books in short order and would love to help out if you are still looking.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hello Lauren! I will be looking for help later this summer. If you’re okay with this, I will write to you then. Thanks for devouring my books, and for volunteering! ;} Happy Spring!

  16. Tracy, you are an awesome writer. I haven’t laughed so much in years. I read the 3 Anabel/Luke books in about as many days. So much fun, so outrageous, so inventive. They are going in my Favorite Bookshelf on my Nook! I just posted my comments on all 3 on the B&N website. I would love to volunteer to Cheerlead and Edit, if still needed. Just do us all a favor and keep writing!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Marcia, thank you for all your wonderful compliments, but I have to say I absolutely loved reading my books are going on your favorites bookshelf–that is sooo awesome! I sincerely appreciate comments on B&N–that’s such a great way to spread the word in support of an indie author like me—thank you, thank you, dear woman. LOL, I will add you to the list of future editors and I definitely will keep writing–I only hope you’ll always consider that a favor! πŸ˜‰ Best Regards!

  17. Tracy, I noticed some minor typos in the kindle versions of the books, and would love to be on the team for the next one!

  18. Carol says:

If you need another volunteer, I’d be happy to help!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Carol! Thanks for volunteering, a self-pubbed author can always use help. :} If it’s okay, I’ll contact you this summer with an update on the latest Anabel book.
      Best wishes!

  19. Kirstie Sexton says:

I loved all three of your books. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next. I am happy to volunteer if you need more help with your next book.

  20. Belinda says:

I would love to volunteer. I tend to mentally edit grammar and syntax in every book I read anyway, so why not? I love the series. I ended up reading all three books in two days because I was so hooked. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

  21. Sherry says:

Just read all three books. Can’t wait for the next one!

  22. Jeri Pugh says:

I just finished the 3rd Anabel book and I am totally in love with these characters! The 1st book was a little rocky. With the non-linear plot and all of the flashbacks, I felt a little ADD while reading it. I understand it was necessary to develop the characters. I am glad I stuck with it because I am hooked girlfriend! Anabel is like a modern day Elizabeth Darcy. So sassy! I would love to volunteer to help with your future works.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hello, Jeri! I’m glad you stuck with it, too, because I think I love YOU! Calling Anabel a modern day Elizabeth made my week–maybe my year! Thank you for that, and for volunteering. I’d welcome your help in the future and will be in touch this summer. (I can’t wipe the grin off my face!)

  23. LaTrice says:

I just finished the third Anabel book and am more than willing to volunteer.

  24. Wanda says:

I just read all three books back to back, loved the series. I’d love to offer my help if you are still looking.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

      Hello Wanda,

      Thank you for reading the series and I’m very happy you loved the books! Yes, I’ll gladly accept your help and will contact you this summer. Appreciate the offer! ;}

  25. Jenny Thomas says:

I have to say I absolutely LOVED these books. Your characters are amazing.I read all 3 books in 3 days and was so sad to be done. I was literally laughing out loud. I have recommended these to every friend and client I have that love to read. I would also LOVE to help edit. Please e-mail me if you are still looking for readers!!!!! And hurry, I’m dying for more annabel!!!!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Jenny! LOL, your post came through today! We’ve already since spoken through email, but thank you again for the kind words and for the recommendations of my series to your friends. I’m totally grateful!

  26. Mary Nestor says:

If you’re still looking for helpers, please count me in! I’m an avid reader and would be thrilled to be even a tiny part of the process!

  27. Cyndy Lacey says:

I am always up to assist in the Annabelle series If you need proof readers or just a humble opinion on story line. I read the other 3 books in about 10 days total! You are the best, and extremely creative with the plots. Take care

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Cyndy! Thanks so much for reading my books! I have a lot of fun thinking up the plots, although sometimes ideas pop up out of nowhere, and because they make me snort and giggle, I have to add them to the book. I’m sure there’s something terribly wrong with my personality for laughing at my own writing, but I don’t mind being wrong when I write. I would love your assistance proofreading! I’ll be in touch this summer when I’m writing the next Anabel. Thanks for offering, you take care, too, and Happy Spring!

  28. Anna Cruzen says:

yes at this email I look forward to helping πŸ™‚

  29. Anna Cruzen says:

If you still are looking for some help with beta-reading, arc reading I can help you there. I have helped some other authors with their books, and they were amazed at what I found that even their editors did not find. i also LOVE you stories about Anabel and her friends and family. And would love to help if there are anymore books/ adventures for Anabel. πŸ™‚

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hey, Anna! I could always use help with beta reading and I definitely love to be amazed. I will add you to the list for the Anabel books and contact you (at this email?) this summer. Thanks so much for offering. Take care!

      • Anna Cruzen says:

I am working on my list that we had talked about for possible parts for anabell. Just taking some time with all the other things going CRAZY in my life. πŸ™‚

      • Tracy Ellen says:

Hi Anna! LOL, well don’t worry, I wasn’t REALLY holding you to anything. ;} (But I do get a kick out of hearing what kind of trouble people think Anabel could get up to in future books, so if your crazy life ever lets you get “my crazy life” list done, I’ll be happy to read it!)

      • Anna Cruzen says:

yes at this email I guess my reply never went though last time.. I Await to hear form you. ❀ Also I have been working on those stories for you like I said.

      • Tracy Ellen says:

        Okey-Doke, Anna! Sounds great–thanks! πŸ˜‰

  30. Stephanie Gerber says:

Absolutely! I very much look forward to it πŸ™‚

  31. Stephanie Gerber says:

I just reading all three of the books in the Axelrod series and just can not get enough! I absolutely love this series and would love to help with any future books!

    • Tracy Ellen says:

      Hi Stephanie! Thank you very much, I appreciate your comments and am so happy you had a good time reading this series. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to someone telling me they absolutely love my books–I admit it tickles the heck out of me! ;}

I’m working on a new series right now, but will be writing another Anabel Adventure this summer. I’d love for you to help. Can I contact you in a few months at this email to see if you’re still interested?

      Thanks again,

  32. Amber Riddell says:

    Thank you can’t wait πŸ™‚

  33. Amber Riddell says:

I would love to help with this I am an avid book reader and lover.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

      Hi Amber! I’m sure to need help when I get started on the next book, so I’ll touch base with anyone that has contacted me to see who’s still interested in volunteering. (Probably end of September.) In the meantime, thanks for your offer. ;}

  34. SnarkyMom says:

Next time you have openings for an editor, let me know — one of my taglines is “Don’t Make Me Get Out My Red Pen!” LOL!! (I also have a favorite t-shirt that reads, “You had me at the proper use of you’re”….)

    • Tracy Ellen says:

Hahaa! I will definitely let you know, SnarkyMom! I thought I’d be taking off a few weeks in between books, but I’m already itchin’ and twitchin’. I’m hoping that’s a sign I need to get writing the next book and not just a new facial tic, as I stare at the world around me…

  35. Kristin Cost says:

Absolutely love Anabelle and her crazy family. Can’t wait to find out about James Byrd. I would be more than happy to help out if you still need it.

    • Tracy Ellen says:

      Hi Kristin,
Thank you for loving Anabel and the gang! I’d appreciate your help. I’ll send you an email tomorrow with some details.

      p.s. You’ll be happy to hear we’re getting to know a lot more about James Byrd in the first chapters…;}

  36. Sandy Samuel says:

Thank you for the invite to preview your second book! I’m truly honored and would love to do it! Actually, I HAVE to read it, if only to find out if you met my challenge! πŸ˜‰ And yeah, I have to admit it would be fun to see my name as a contributing editor. Mostly I just really like Anabelle. Can’t wait to see what Luke has planned for his turn!

    Looking forward to it!

    • TE says:

How fun that you have met my challenge! Now how can I possibly fail to meet yours?

      Between us, my nefarious plan is to put the blame squarely on the contributing editors of Book Two if I don’t WILDLY exceed expectations of Anabel’s fans. So let me make sure I have your full name spelled right…;}

Tomorrow (Sunday) night–I am sending out the first few chapters to our new group of editors.

  37. Kelly Beausoleil says:

I just finished reading your book and immediately started to look for info on book 2. I would love to help out with editing! Not to mention getting a sneak peek!

    • TE says:

Thanks, Kelly, that would be great! I’m shooting you an email tonight. I’m looking forward to our merry band of volunteers getting a sneak peek and giving me their feedback!

  38. Amber Gleisner says:

I really enjoyed the first book, and am eagerly awaiting the second! I would love to help with editing! That would mean I could get a glimpse of the next chapter in the drama!

    • TE says:

Hi Amber! LOL, yes, it would mean that. Look for an email tonight from me with the editing details. Thanks lots for your positive comments.
p.s. Just read your review on I’ve caught a nasty, freakin’ cold and despise being sick. Your review would have made my day anyway, but REALLY did since I’m a sniveling baby of a mess right now. Thank you! ;]

  39. Kathy Dowell says:

I’m a voracious reader and truly enjoyed your first Annabelle book. I’d love the chance for an early look at the second, and editing would be an easy price to pay.
    Kathy D.

    • TE says:

I’m always so happy to hear when someone enjoyed my first book. It’s what makes writing a story so fun. I am sending you an email with pertinent info on editing. Thanks, kathy!
